The sound
What we play
Twelve pieces: the five-piece Sin City Horns, a Hammond organ, two guitars, bass and drums, and two lead singers out front — one male, one female. That last part matters: it is why the book can run from Aretha Franklin to Joe Cocker inside the same set.
The book runs from Stax and Motown through New Orleans funk, Philadelphia soul, blues and jazz-funk. Aretha, Al Green, Tower of Power, The Meters, War, Chicago, James Brown, Average White Band, Joe Cocker, Amy Winehouse.
